Director’s Office

Pursuant to Virginia Code § 9.1-1100, the Director of the Department of Forensic Science is appointed by the Governor of Virginia for a term of six years, subject to confirmation by the Virginia General Assembly.  It is the responsibility of the Director to carry out the duties of the Department as specified by law and as further directed by the Governor.  The qualifications of the Director are specified by the Virginia Forensic Science Board, and the Director serves as a member of the Department’s associated Scientific Advisory Committee.

The Department is also served by a Chief Deputy Director who is appointed by the Governor and whose responsibilities include public policy development and coordination with the Office of the Secretary of Public Safety and Homeland Security and General Assembly.
