Due to the recent submissions of fentanyl, carfentanil, and other powerful synthetic opioids to the Department, special precautions should be taken to minimize exposure when handling, sampling, and field testing powders. - The Fentanyl Safety Recommendations for First Responders, released on November 1, 2017, are the result of a Federal Interagency Working Group coordinated by the White House National Security Council with input from associations/organizations representing the medical, public health, law enforcement, Fire/EMS, and occupational safety and health disciplines.
