Eastern Lab
The Eastern Laboratory employs a staff of about 40 to provide the following services:
- Controlled Substances
- Firearms & Toolmarks
- Forensic Biology
- Forensic Toxicology
- Latent Prints
- Questioned Documents
- Trace Evidence
The Eastern Laboratory is located in the heart of Hampton Roads near the waterfront in downtown Norfolk.
The laboratory is a modern, full-service forensic laboratory and occupies the entire fourth floor (over 32,000 sq. ft. of space) in the Norfolk Public Health Building, completed in 1999. The lab is adjacent to a medical complex that includes the Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) and two major hospitals: Sentara Norfolk General Hospital and Children's Hospital of the Kings Daughters. The Tidewater Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is co-located in this building and nearby is the NCIS Forensic Laboratory located at Naval Base, Norfolk.
