Congratulations to DFS Scientific Staff Members on Their Appointment to the OSAC

On October 29, the U.S. Commerce Department’s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) announced the final appointments to the Organization for Scientific Area Committees (OSAC), established to coordinate development of standards and guidelines for the forensic science community. The organization is bringing a uniform structure to what was previously an ad hoc system with the goal of improving the quality and consistency of forensic science in the United States. Below is a list of DFS scientists appointed to serve on various OSAC Subcommittees.

· Brenda Christy – Chemistry/Instrumental Analysis Scientific Area Committee’s Fire Debris and Explosives Subcommittee

· Doug DeGaetano – Chemistry/Instrumental Analysis Scientific Area Committee’s Gunshot Residue (GSR) Subcommittee

· Wendy M. Gibson – Physics/Pattern Scientific Area Committee’s Firearms & Toolmarks Subcommittee

· Susan Greenspoon, Ph.D. – Biology/DNA Scientific Area Committee’s DNA Analysis 1 Subcommittee

· Melissa Kennedy – Chemistry/Instrumental Analysis Scientific Area Committee’s Toxicology Subcommittee

· David Koppenhaver – Chemistry/Instrumental Analysis Scientific Area Committee’s Controlled Substances Subcommittee

· Amanda Lane – Physical/Pattern Scientific Area Committee’s Footwear & Tire Tread Subcommittee

· Robyn Weimer – Chemistry/Instrumental Analysis Scientific Area Committee’s Materials (Trace) Subcommittee
