Trace Evidence: How Trace Can Help Your Case --- Richmond, VA 06/29/2022

This full-day training will cover the capabilities and submission criteria for the Trace Evidence Section at the Virginia Department of Forensic Science. Students will receive Trace Evidence specific instruction in evidence handling, requests for exams, when pre-consultation is required for submissions, the capabilities of the Trace Evidence Section, and understanding Trace Evidence reports. The goal of this training is to assist students in determining when Trace Evidence exams are appropriate, and what types of evidence are best suited for submission. Practical exercises will be included for students to gain experience in determining the appropriate packaging for a variety of Trace Evidence types as well as what kinds of exams can be requested for different evidence. Instruction will consist of PowerPoint lectures with included case studies and practical exercises.

This course will be limited to 75 students and is restricted to personnel from Virginia law enforcement agencies and Commonwealth Attorney’s Offices.

The course will be taught by the Central Laboratory’s Trace Evidence Section at the City of Richmond Police Department’s Training Academy located at 1202 W. Graham Road, Richmond, VA 23220, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
